Never down the pipe on reheat, but I’ve been behind a CF18s F404s on slightly above idle and it kicks off a whopping punch.

it always boggles the mind that we have engines like the LS and yet small light craft still use 500+ cubic inch 4 bangers that run on leaded fuel as the standard . Not the the lycomings are bad engines, but ...leaded fuel. Cmon.

That guy makes great vids. Very informative, but down to earth...also has jet engines.

so many great channels out there that are popular but are “content producers”. I enjoy those one the best.

The LS is a shitty engine for aircraft. It just is. Even I know enough about aircraft to know that.
But yeah, I cannot get my head around the fact that when I need leaded gasoline, I literally just go to the fucking “ airport” (it’s a grass field,) hand the guy some bills, and there it is. I am no staunch environmentalist (“ you’ll pry my internal combustion from ... well you won’t because I’ll kill you”) but seriously, even I absolutely draw the line at leaded gasoline.
We KNOW the damage that shit is done, we KNOW how fucking awful it is in every regard, and yet I can go down to a goddamn collection of rusty outbuildings AND GET 50 GALLONS OUT OF A RUSTY PUMP. This is shit that is so bad, I have straight up told people for 20 years that the only time I will touch leaded gas is draining it to convert a car to unleaded. Period.
But fuck, got you a brand new Piper PA-46 M350 ? $2 M USD and 12 0 gallons of leaded gas per trip. For a Brand. New. Plane. I get that certifying your engine will not randomly throw a rod and kill everyone onboard is pretty fucking important and takes just a little while , but I’m pretty goddamn sure it doesn’t take 62 years.

Key differences between aero and automotive engines include thrust bearings and the fact that the duty cycle for an aircraft is basically 100%. A Corvair engine made for an aircraft was rated at just 30HP despite being 80-110 on an automotive application.
